Colombia's Biodiversity

Allow us to introduce you to the unique country of Colombia. A haven of biodiversity, with more than 50,000 species of animals and plants. Beautiful nature, exotic animals and a variety of orchid flowers will convince you that Colombia is one of the most extraordinary places on Earth.

Colombia is conveniently located in the equatorial tropics. Because of this, it has a diverse topography with a variety of climates and ecosystems which boost its biodiversity, currently accounting for 10% of Earth’s flora and fauna. Worldwide, it ranks first in bird and orchid species diversity and second in plants, butterflies, freshwater fishes and amphibians.

Additionally, Colombia is surrounded by three huge mountains which split the country into five natural regions: Andes, Pacific, Caribbean, Amazon, and the Llanos (plains). These regions offer an impressive range of climates and beautiful landscapes at varying altitudes.

Well-known as the second-most biodiverse country in the world, Colombia also has the third-highest number of endemic species after Brazil and Indonesia. This means that these species can only be found here. The regions with the greatest concentration of this mega-diversity are the Amazon, the Andes, the inter-Andean valleys, and the Chocó region.

Big Thanks to our dear friends - two time attendees - Laura Findley and Paul Weishaar for bringing their professional camera, curious eyes and generous hearts to capture these magnificent pictures and memories.
